If you're going east towards Nevada City and Virginia City, Montana you'll find an old dirt road that turns to the right just as you're about to enter Nevada City. That road will take you to the remains of an old gold camp with open horizontal and vertical mine shafts large enough to stand up in. Upon throwing a number of rocks into one of the vertical shafts it took a full five seconds before hearing a report and it still hadn't hit bottom.
Round trip on this road is approximately 15 miles but a 4-wheel drive or at least a vehicle with plenty of clearance is advisable.
The walls of this cabin were insulated with what appeared to be vinyl or latex newspaper pages dated 1938. It is assumed they were used by the newspaper as a form for rollers and produced from a typeset.
