The Bell Jar Experiment

Purpose:

1. To see the effects of reducing the pressure on a balloon.

Materials:

1. (1) balloon
2. Bell Jar
3. Vacuum Pump
4. Hose

Procedure:

1. Plug vacuum pump in.
2. Connect hose to pump and bell jar.
3. Place balloon inside bell jar and place cover on the bell jar.
4. Open valve on bell jar and turn pump on.
5. Close valve and turn pump off when the desired pressure has been reached.
6. Once done viewing the change, open valve on bell jar and observe the changes.

Questions: What happened to the balloon?  Why?
