Sodium Reacts With Water

Purpose:

1. To understand how explosive the 1A metals are.

Materials:

1. Sodium
2. 1L beaker
3. Water

Procedure:

1. Fill beaker with water (about half way).
2. Remove small piece of sodium.
3. Throw small piece of sodium in the water.
4. Observe what happens and then try it again with a bigger piece and notice how much more explosive it is.

1. What happens when the sodium is thrown in the water?
